What is Collins trying to say with this poem? He is trying to say that the event on turning ten years old, your first big birthday is a changing event in a young child's life because they had been alive for a decade.  They have had imginary friends, and played make believe and its finnaly time to start growing up.
How does he capture childhood and the process of growing up? He captures childhood as a time to play and a time for games and growing up to be a bad thing to leave it all behind.
What makes this poem effective? Yes it was efective on making you realizie his perception of growing up.
How does this fit into your own life experience? I am 18 supporting myself , working, and still in high school.  I am still a child at heart and wish to go out and spend money on silly things but yet i cannot do this anymore i have to think about more important things like food, where im going to live, how im getting to work and school the next day, but these things are no longer possible. I am and adult and execpting that is hard.

Spring break

Over spring break i worked 40 hours, spent time with wayne, and went about daily life.  I just watched tv, play with my puppy, and listen to music.

Yankee questions

Questions to answer:
Are there any fresh ideas enlisted in this definition? I didnt know about Mark Twain's novel Connecticut Yankee , or that the book existied so i would consider that a fresh idea, him defining Yankee using a book.
How would you have defined this idea? I would have defined Yankee as an all american, a baseball fan/ baseball player .
Are there ideas similar to it that you could choose to define? I guess you could consinder an "American" to be a similar word you could choose to definne, because they are getting at the same general meaning.

There are allusions here: (1) to the musical Damn Yankees!, (2) to the Bible (the parable of the Good Samaritan), and (3) to a poem by Robert Frost. Do these allusions add anything to the essay or to your understanding of things? What if you didn't "get" the allusions?
Yes they do because it gives you something that you understand and know about to define a work you may not know what they are defining.
What techniques of development does the essay use in the process of definition? Do you think the writer dwelt too long on what a Yankee is not before moving on to what a Yankee is?
He used lititure, baseball, and musicals to define the word Yankee
Can you point to (write down) one sentence that functions as thesis statement in this essay?
That's what I think defines this dying breed of the American Yankee: an extraordinary sense of balance and reserve, a holding off — and yet, behind all that reserve, a reservoir of generosity and friendliness that can be nearly overwhelming.

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING ON YOUR BLOG1. Does this essay have an explicitly stated thesis? If so, what is it? If you believe the thesis is implied, paraphrase it in your own words.
I think its implied that she wants a man to understand how much the wife does on the dailey and that she wishes someone would do that for her.
2. Throughout the essay, Brady repeats the words “I want a wife.” What is the effect of this repetition?
To explain she wants someone to take care of her.
3. Do you think Brady really wants the kind of wife she describes—does this ideal spouse
actually exist? Explain why you think Brady wrote this essay.
No, she was trying to explain how much a women does.

4. How does Brady define what it means to be a “wife”? How does she organize the many services a wife provides her husband and family? What do you think of Brady’s characterization of a wife and her responsibilities? How do you think she wants her readers to respond to this characterization? Why?
She defines it to be a woman who cooks, cleans, and takes care of the children.  I think that it sounds like it is set back in the day because it is, which makes it very sexist.

5. Write a letter to Brady responding to “I Want a Wife.” Let her know what you admire or don’t admire about the essay and the extent to which you consider it effective and/or persuasive.

Dear Brady,
I admire your outlook on how females do so much in the home.  I agree back in the day it was like that, but now in days i feel like women have more of a chioce to go out and get an education while the man can take on womens roles.

Little Red Riding Hood

Little Red Riding Hood
There once was a little girl who liked to wear red,
She kept a little red hood on the top of her head
One day she was going to see her grandma that was close to being dead
And brind some good food right up to her bed
There was a gangsta wolf hiding in the shadows
He wanted all her goodies something like a dude whos shallow
So he tried to get her walking down by the meddow
But she whooped his butt and said hell no
He tried to be sneaky and play like the grandma
Ate the old lady and chilled in her bed
And waited for the little girl who liked to wear red
She walked in they conversated a bit
But the wolf knew he had to be quick
He ate the everything the food the girl and all
Guess sometimes evil wins after all

word writing

Riding his new red bike, the young boy rode down the hard road.  Feeling ostentatious he tried to ride the ramp with the older kids.  As he sped up the ramp he hit the pavement with a smack to the ground. He started gushing blood from his mouth and nose. His nose fell off as we were rushing him to the hospital. And his face was looking as flat as a board. His bike went from splendid to bended in about 5 seconds.  To keep the blood from gushing everywhere he grabbed a washcloth from the bathroom. His mom telling him everything will be okay. She tells her son that she will buy him a scrumptious burger once all this was over. The quintessence of blueberry ice cream floats in his head as he blurs the line of conciseness. He spasms into a seizure and dies as the fantastic food goes to waste.

Helen Keller Narritive - Questions

Answer the following:
1. What did you think of this narrative? I thought it was ispirational and stong that a small girl could find so much pleasure in figuring out everything had a name.
2. What was most interesting or engaging about it? Hearing everything from her point of view was interesting because we dont look at the world in the same way she did.
3. What surprised you?
The fact that Helen Keller was so aware of her surroundings despite the fact that she was 6 years old and blind and deff.
4. Did this change your outlook on Helen Keller at all? Why or why not? Yes it showed me she was aware and not just "blind and deff" in the world, the fact that she knew everything going on she just needed a way to express it.
5. Copy and paste three examples of vivid detail and imagery that helped enhance the story
1.Have you ever been at sea in a dense fog, when it seemed as if a tangible white darkness shut you in, and the great ship, tense and anxious, groped her way toward the shore with plummet and sounding-line, and you waited with beating heart for something to happen?

2.The afternoon sun penetrated the mass of honeysuckle that covered the porch, and fell on my upturned face.

3.I knew then that "w-a-t-e-r" meant the wonderful cool something that was flowing over my hand.

6. How can a narrative be more engaging than something like a biography? Why is it important to get someone's personal perspective?  For the fact that it is there personal perspective, its important to get that because everyone persives things differently and someone writing a biography on a person didnt live through it as the subject did.
7. Make a bulltted lists of some things you could write a narrative about

Where I'm From

I am from abuse and dysfunction
Home to home
I am from beatings, rape, and demeaning words
That makes u feel so alone
I am from tears, fears, and screaming
All night long

I am from hospitals, padded rooms,
And drugs to make u calm
I am from medication, no escape
And pealed paint on the walls

I am from struggle, happiness,
Fear and strength
I am from hopeless thoughts
No way out, any escape

I am from many schools, teachers,
Friends and classmates
I am from four high schools
Where friends don’t last

I am from Grandmother and Granddad
Toasted Marshmallows, hot chocolate
And singing songs
I am from a fireplace with burning logs
Brought in from the cold winter nights

You could say I’m from the bad
But I will turn myself good
The past is gone
And my future is bright
